Artist statement
The absence of visage, its crystalline degradation and obliteration is not only a metaphor for loss. It also represents the physical decay my father experienced and his reluctance to have his photograph taken due to facial disfigurement. The impenetrable black of the lead crystal glass, its weight and loyal impression of every scuff dimple and imperfection, was the only material with which I could make this piece.
